Endangered: Ekin House

The pre-1840s Ekin House, photographed today by writer, and currently endangered by neglect and demolition threats. The house is located in Elizabeth, adjacent to the Monongahela riverfront park and the business district. Elizabeth is one of the oldest towns in the region, was populated in the late 1700s, and was famed for boat building in the riverboat era.  The Ekin house is a rare cultural remnant from this era, and is important as a vernacular reminder of western PA's pre-Steel Era history. I was able to photograph some of the interesting details inside the house. I'm hoping the community can work together to save this treasure, which was recognized as a YPA Top Ten historic preservation opportunity last year!
